Dr. Anna Damaskou
Fellow
Anna has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of compliance and supervision of the banking and financial sectors, as well as in that of financial crime. She teaches and publishes extensively on the topics of good governance, anti-corruption, ethics and regulation and supervision of the banking and financial sectors. Anna is a Member of the Athens Bar Association and is certified as a fraud examiner, anti-money laundering specialist, general sanctions specialist and data protection officer.
In 2013, Anna brought the word “whistleblowing” to Greece at a time when the term was largely unknown to the general public. This took place within the framework of the EU-funded research she conducted for Transparency International Greece – in which she served as chair and member of the Strategy Reference Group – where she advocated for the enactment of a law for the protection of whistleblowers. One year later, the first Greek law for the protection of the so-called “witnesses of public interest” came into force.
