As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on our work and efforts to strengthen whistleblowing laws and policies. We delivered specialised training to judges across Europe, enhancing their ability to address whistleblowing cases. We contributed to key policy and legal discussions, including at the Industrial Relations News Conference, European Central Bank, International Society for Military Law and the Law of War, Council of Europe,  European Law Academy, European Employment Lawyers Association, European Law Advisors Network, and European Judicial Training Network.

We hosted an online public event with leading experts to reflect on the progress made three years after the transposition deadline for the EU Whistleblower Directive. This event showed remaining challenges, provided a roadmap for action, especially how to incorporate gender perspectives and use a speak-up self-assessment tool.

Our Fellowship cohort has expanded to eight EU states, welcoming exceptional professionals from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Spain, Poland, and Italy. EWI Fellows are strengthening our collective capacity to advance whistleblowing law.

A major milestone is the launch of the BRIGHT Project, developed in collaboration with Professor Wim Vandekerckhove, EDHEC Business School and Professor Kate Kenny, University of Galway. This project focuses on equipping diverse stakeholders with data, tools, and capacity to navigate the complexities of whistleblowing.

We are delighted to welcome Catarina Vila Nova as our new Communications Manager. Her expertise is instrumental in amplifying our outreach and fostering stronger connections in the whistleblowing community.

Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be an exceptional year. On 4 April 2025, EWI will proudly host the European Whistleblowing Conference at the Residence Palace in Brussels. See more details below.

We are deeply grateful to our partners, fellows, and all supporters for the unwavering commitment as EWI marks two years since its launch. Together, we look forward to shaping a stronger future for whistleblowing law and policy in Europe.

With appreciation,

Vigjilenca, Bruno, Dimitrios, Lauren
