Catarina is the Communications and Operations Manager at the European Whistleblowing Institute, where she oversees EWI’s communication work. She started her career as a journalist in Macao, China, focusing on the migrant communities of Southeast Asia as well as local politics. It is from reporting in an environment where freedom of speech and press was being severely curtailed that Catarina gained a renewed appreciation for the bravery and importance of whistleblowers.

More recently, Catarina pivoted to communications, having worked in the communications department of the European Union Agency for Asylum and as the Press and Communications Officer of a Brussels-based think tank, where she is still in the lead of podcast production.
